Am 6. und 7. Februar 2015 findet ein Workshop des Graduiertenkollegs 1876 mit Prof. Orly Goldwasser (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) zum Thema “Prototype Theory and Egyptian Hieroglyphs (an introduction)” statt.

Abstract:
Why is categorization central to the understanding of culture? What is prototype theory? How does it differ from earlier and other, current theories of categorization? What special relevance does this theory have to Egyptology and the hieroglyphic script? Do hieroglyphs bring new information to prototype theory and other general theories of categorization and classification? What is the connection between brain theory, hieroglyphs and prototypes? How can prototype theory be extended to other research questions?
Primary seminar objectives:
1. Create awareness to new research questions in any discipline one is working in.
2. Enhance interdisciplinary thinking.
3. Introduce new perspectives on Egyptian hieroglyphs.
4. Present research on categorization in the human mind, classification, classifiers and a few finds in the field of brain research.
